Title: MSD Paving the Way with Patient Centered Approach
First Presenter: Mr Brett Johnson (MSD Medical Advisor Fertility)
First Presentation:
An overview of the MSD Fertility portfolio, past, present and future - to coincide with ELONVA’s listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme under section 100. MSD has a strong vision for fertility in Australia, Patient Centered Approach; making the protocols as simple as possible, minimising medications and reducing the duration of an IVF treatment. The first step was the antagonist protocol and ELONVA the next step, with 1 injection replacing the first seven days of recFSH treatment. If patients are to be unsuccessful they are more likely to return for another cycle due to the reduction in treatment burden, decreasing dropout rate and increasing cumulative pregnancy rates.
Second Presenter: Prof Robert Norman (Director of the Robinson Institute)
Second Presentation:
Success in Assisted Reproductive Technology has traditionally been based on pregnancy rate per cycle. This can be seen on any number of IVF centres websites, where they discuss the success of the clinic solely on their pregnancy outcomes achieved. However, the definition of pregnancy rate and what parameters are being measured is often hard to determine. Further to that patient cohort (age, cause of infertility, socio-economic) also plays a large role in outcomes. Prof Norman examines the various parameters of success, and proposes a new measure that is applicable to all IVF units. Focusing on cumulative pregnancy rate which encompasses the whole IVF experience and plays are role in determining whether patient’s return for a subsequent cycle.
