Dr Nie is currently an NHMRC Senior Research Fellow, and head of the Implantation and Placental Development Laboratory at Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne, Australia. Dr Nie trained as a molecular biologist and biochemist and received her PhD in 1991 from University of Essex, UK. She spent the next 4 years as a Research Associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory, New York, USA, before moving to Australia. The focus of Dr Nie’s current research is understanding how the uterus contributes to the success and/or failure of embryo implantation, placental development, and related clinical implications. One of her current research areas is to investigate how proprotein convertase 6 (PC6) regulates endometrial receptivity, and the potential of PC6 as a diagnostic marker for receptivity as well as a target for dual-role contraception (blocking pregnancy and HIV infection simultaneously). Dr Nie has over 60 peer-reviewed publications and 2 patents. |
