Professor Luigi Devoto

Dr Luigi Devoto is one of the founding director of Institute for  Maternal  and Child Research at the Faculty of Medicine University of Chile.

Dr Devoto has been national and internationally recognized for his research and post graduate research training programs in human reproduction which have been sponsored continuously by the Chilean Research Council, WHO, Rockefeller Foundation and Pharmaceutical companies. He has served as elected members of many national and international medical science organisations.

He launched two important academic initiatives at the University of Chile; a two year fellowship program in reproductive medicine and infertility and the first academic IVF program in the public sector of Latin America. Dr Devoto’s research interests include: molecular regulation of steroid biosynthesis by the human corpus luteum, molecular mechanisms involved in human ovulation, assisted reproduction in technology and gynaecological endoscopy.

In recognition of these achievements he was elected as member of the Chilean Academia of Medicine in the year 2008.
